Rules on Award Tickets/Award Upgrades
Award Tickets on Air China Flights
- Award tickets may only be used on direct flights.
- For an international round-trip award ticket, an open jaw is allowed at the return point (that is, the origin of the return trip can be different from the destination of the outbound trip), but the open jaw must be within the same country. For example, for an award ticket Beijing-San Francisco and Los Angeles-Beijing, the conversion standards on Beijing-San Francisco apply. For domestic round-trip award tickets, an open jaw at the return point is not allowed and two single trips will be counted.
- When award tickets are booked in different classes, the mileage redeemed would be the sum of 1/2 of the round-trip mileage of different classes.
Award Upgrades on Air China Flights
- Award upgrades are applicable to all flights operated by Air China and CA-coded flights.
- Award upgrades are applicable only to C, D, J, Y, B, M, H, K classes.
- Upgrades are limited to the next class (i.e. Economy to Business, or Business to First). If there are no Business Class seats available on a flight, the ticket can only be upgraded from Economy Class to First Class, and the mileage needed would be the sum of the mileage upgrades from Economy Class to Business Class and Business Class to First Class.
- After an upgrade is made, the mileage accrued for the flight is based on the original (non-upgraded) class. If a ticket needs to be endorsed on a voluntary basis, the original class applies and any mileage redeemed will not be returned. If you change the date of your upgraded ticket, a change fee will be charged.
Award Tickets on a Star Carrier
- One-way award tickets are not allowed. Only round-trip award tickets are applicable.
- For travel within the same zone, award tickets must be on direct round-trip flights, and an open jaw is allowed at the return point, however, the open jaw can only involve one country.
- For round-trip travel between two zones, one stopover is allowed on both the outbound trip and the inbound trip, and one open jaw is allowed for each trip. The open jaw must be in the same country. For each stopover or transfer, a mileage fare of 10,000 kilometers is charged, irrespective of the class of service.
- A round-the-world ticket only allows for crossing the three award zones in the same direction, and these award zones each must be within IATA Zone I, Zone II and Zone III. In each award zone, two free stopovers (including transfers) are allowed, and a maximum of 5 stopovers (including transfers) are allowed. For the entire trip, the number of flight segments cannot exceed 8. Open jaws are allowed, however, an open jaw can only involve one country.
- When you request an award ticket on a Star carrier, if different classes of service are involved, the mileage fare of the higher class applies.
Award Tickets on Other Partner Carriers
- The rules on Air China Award Ticket apply.
